The California Energy Initiative

Helping Homeowners Reduce Grid Dependence in High-Risk Zones

California’s Energy Initiative supports residents in wildfire-prone and underserved areas by encouraging the use of self-generation systems. Instead of rebuilding aging power infrastructure, the program focuses on reducing stress on the grid while improving energy reliability and independence for homeowners.

Local Utility Support

After devastating wildfires throughout California, the state and utilities reached a solution: invest in locally distributed energy systems. These location based programs gives eligible homeowners a discount on their electric bill for supporting local energy initiatives. Local utilities support by verifying and approving qualified systems submitted through third-party administrators.

Funding and eligibility requirements vary based on location and energy usage. It's important to check availability your area prior to scheduling an assessment.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

ASSESSEMENT

Local utilities requires a program administrator to first sign off on your location before an application can be submitted.

Scheduling is on a first-come, first-serve basis while funding is available.

FUNDING & INCENTIVES

If your home is approved, an application is submitted to your local utility company to determine the self-generation equipment required for your home. Funding is allocated to help offset the cost of the equipment and varies based on location, energy usage, and system type.
